AN APPLICATION to build six flats on the site of a former children’s home in Great Sutton has been approved.

The proposals, put forward by Craig Thomas at Dale Hey, Gawsworth Road was agreed by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning committee after being called in by St Paul’s ward councillor Angela Claydon (Lab) due to concerns about overlooking.

Urging the committee to reject the application, she put forward her view there were too many apartments and the application would be detrimental to pensioners living near the site, saying Mr Thomas was ‘trying to squeeze a quart into a pint pot’.

The change of use would include a loft conversion at the two-storey building and parking.

Neighbour objections included concerns about loss of privacy and light.

But planners decided the principle of the conversion to the residential area was acceptable and the application was recommended for approval.
