FIVE people have been arrested in connection with a spate of armed robberies in Ellesmere Port.

In the past few weeks, six premises in the town have been raided over a period of three weeks by armed thieves demanding cash from staff.

Port Wines, Wolverham Post Office and Bargain Booze were among those targeted.

The perpetrators wore balaclavas and wielded weapons including knives and large planks of wood.

A police investigation was launched and now four men and one woman have been arrested in connection with the incidents.

Two of the men, aged 32 and 26, have been charged in relation to a robbery at McColls newsagents on Old Chester Road, on February 19, and Ladbrokes on Chester Road on February 21.

The other two men, aged 24 and 36 and the woman, 26, have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are continuing their investigations and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101.

Information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
