A horse had a long face after getting stuck in a pond but firefighters soon pulled the beast out of its watery predicament.

Firefighters from Malpas and the fire service’s Knutsford-based Animal Rescue Unit were called to Bulkeley Hall Lane, Bickerton, about 8am this morning (Wednesday August 26).

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Restraints were set up and a clearing established by crews in harnesses who released the horse from the water.”

The teams had to get the horse up a steep embankment and a farmer provided mechanical equipment to assist in this endeavour.

By 1.30pm it was reported the horse had been safely released into the care of a vet and its owner – apparently none the worse for its ordeal.
