A BRIDE chose an unusual way to get to the church on time – in tribute to her dad and father-in-law.

Christina Higgins, 28, arrived at her wedding at St Winifred’s Church, Little Neston, on Friday in a classic red fire engine.

She met 26-year-old groom Liam Fenney five years ago while the pair were both working in the Hinderton Arms pub in the Cheshire village – but neither of them knew their dads had met 25 years ago while working as firefighters.

Christina said: “We got chatting and after a while we figured out our dads used to work together. I was shocked at first. It really is a small world.”

Peter Higgins and Kevin Fenney met while working as firefighters at Chester Fire Station. Peter has retired after 25 years of service, but Kevin is now station manager.

“We thought the fire engine would be the perfect addition to the wedding because of our dads’ jobs,” said Christina. “The last thing we wanted was a boring white car – this is a little bit unique.”

Peter added: “Christina and I came up with the idea. We were discussing transport to the wedding and just thought a fire engine would be something a bit different

“It will have a special meaning for the family.”

After the ceremony Christina and Liam, who live in Broughton, were taken to Chester Zoo for their reception.

“Not all our guests knew about it before the wedding, so I hope it was a nice surprise for them on the day,” added Christina.

“You don’t see many brides arriving in a fire engine!”
