AMONG police files allegedly unlawfully accessed by a former Northwich police officer was one relating to footballer Djibril Cisse, a court has heard.

The ex-Liverpool player, now at Sunderland, was arrested in January 2006 for a domestic assault at his Frodsham home and a jury was told yesterday that PC Mohammed Ahmed later twice looked at his file without authority.

Ahmed, 26, is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court facing seven charges of misconduct in public office.

The prosecution claim that he used Cheshire Constabulary computer systems to illegally access details of acquaintances.

While based in Northwich, he used the computer to look into details of crimes in his home town of Warrington.

His duties did not include that area and he knew the computer contained highly sensitive information and should only be used as required for police or criminal justice work, Neil Fryman, prosecuting, has claimed.

When the trial began last week Ahmed, of California Close, Great Sankey, Warrington, faced eight offences of misconduct in 2006 and 2007 but he was cleared of one of the offences on Tuesday after the prosecution offered no further evidence on it.

The prosecution ended their case yesterday and Ahmed began giving his evidence – strenuously denying the allegations.

The court has heard that he allegedly used the computer systems about 300 times unlawfully and asked about this by his barrister, Trevor Parry-Jones, he replied: “I never thought I was doing wrong.”

The case continues.
