Soroptimists in Ellesmere Port and district have a new president.

Retiring president Grace Brown has handed over the chain of office to new president Eilish Trow.

Secretary Dorothy Cartwright said: “Grace has led the club through a busy year giving service and fund raising.

“Her main charity has been the Trinity Project housed within the Trinity Church in the town centre where some members volunteer for the food bank along with other activities within the project.

“The project was presented with a donation of £1,000.”

Other projects which have benefited during her year have been the Cinnamon Trust, an animal care scheme for people who can’t look after their pet because of illness and other problems along with Mary’s Meals, an overseas project where back packs have been sent full of school materials for children in Malawi.

The club’s ongoing projects have also continued.

New president Eilish says she intends to carry on supporting the Soroptimists’ charities with her main charity being the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

“We are looking forward to a successful year of hard work with lots of fun and friendship within our club and our clubs worldwide,” said Dorothy.

The club was founded in 1943 and is one of 18 in the Soroptimist region of Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral.

It meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 7.30pm at the Mercure Hotel on the Welsh Road/Berwick Road in Little Sutton.

The 1st Thursday sees a business meeting while on the 3rd Thursday members enjoy a meal together followed by a speaker.

As well as regular meetings there are additional meetings and functions connected with the club’s projects and charity interests and social events including a summer outing and a Christmas party.

There are at present 40 members, mainly from in and around Ellesmere Port although some are from Chester and the borders of North Wales.
