ELLESMERE Port singer Ian Prowse has recorded a double A-side single for a testicular cancer charity.

The single – covers of Bruce Springsteen’s Rosalita and Paul Simon’s Cecilia – will be released in aid of Check ’Em Lads, the young men’s cancer awareness charity.

Amsterdam frontman Ian Prowse has been working on the song Rosalita with Jez Wing from Echo and the Bunnymen, Wayne Morgan, who currently plays bass for the Four Tops and the Three Degrees, Amsterdam guitarist Johnny Barlow and Steve White from The Who and The Style Council, who also plays for Paul Weller.

Ian said: “It started with a phone conversation between myself and fellow singer-songwriter Dan Donnelly.

“Dan had just become a father for the first time and, like me, had decided to name his baby daughter after a song he loved. Her name is Cecilia, after the famous Paul Simon song, and my daughter is called Rosalita in honour of my hero Bruce Springsteen.

“Then we started work with Dave Hewitson from Eighties Casuals clothing company, which also has a small record label that only deals in vinyl releases.”

After an impromptu meeting in Liverpool, they decided to make the record.

Ian added: “I bumped into Dave on Bold Street and he asked would I do an Amsterdam release on his label. Immediately I thought of our idea to record our daughters’ songs and suggested we do that.

“Dave then came up with the idea of getting the brilliant Steve White in on drums and affiliating the entire Father’s Day release to a male-centric charity.”

Steve is a co-founder of Check ’Em Lads, a charity dedicated to helping men detect testicular cancer early.

Ian said: “This seems like a perfect package to help people and make daddy’s day this year a little bit special.”

All proceeds to go to the Check ‘Em Lads charity. Find out more at www.checkemlads.com.
