A MAN who twice assaulted his pregnant girlfriend has been given a suspended jail term.

Nathan John Kinder, 19, of Langley Court, Ellesmere Port, was given a two-month custodial sentence for each offence, to run consecutively, suspended for two years.

He was also given a community order for the length of the sentence, ordered to take part in a domestic violence programme and told to pay £85 costs when he appeared at Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court last Wednesday.

Kinder admitted assaulting his partner of eight years Caroline Davies, who was six weeks pregnant at the time, on August 6 and 8.

Prosecuting, Rob Youds, said the couple were due to go flat hunting on August 7 but the night before Kinder, who was playing on his Xbox, decided he didn’t want to.

Caroline picked up his computer controller and threw it across the room.

Kinder responded by punching her left leg repeatedly and threatening to smash her phone.

The following day the couple made up but by the next morning – when the pair were due to go to hospital for the baby’s scan – Kinder was in a mood and said he didn’t want to go.

When Caroline went to leave, he grabbed her by the wrists and pulled her on to the bed before throwing her mobile phone.

Kinder followed her as she ran off. As they struggled outside he hit her in the face using her left hand.

Youds said Kinder then ‘lost it’ and punched her in the face, before picking her up and apologising.

He said Caroline had not applied for a restraining order against Kinder and wanted him to be involved with the birth.

Adrian Evans, defending, described Kinder as ‘immature’ for his age but said he had shown ‘remorse’.

“He hasn’t tried to pass the blame elsewhere,” he said. “He has anger management issues. He and his partner want to reconcile. On the face of it that is going to occur.”
