A 27-YEAR-OLD man has denied dangerous driving after a police chase in Ellesmere Port.

Wayne Gary Knight, of Gawsworth Road, Great Sutton, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty to taking a Vauxhall Astra on May 12 this year, driving the vehicle dangerously on the A540 Welsh Road in Ledsham and causing injury to a named man.

He also pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving, this time in a Vauxhall Astra van, on the A594 and A5117 at Ellesmere Port on May 23.

It is alleged that he drove at speeds of up to 80mph while trying to evade police before losing control of the vehicle.

Knight was supposed to attend court the day before, but had sent in a doctor’s note saying he was ‘anxious and depressed’, something Judge Roger Dutton said was not a good enough reason for not attending.

Sarah Holt, defending, said Knight was suffering from a ‘fragile state of mind’.

Knight was ordered to stay at a bail hostel in Langton Road in Liverpool, where he has to obey a 9pm-6am curfew.

He must return to Chester Crown Court on October 12 for trial, which could take up to three days.
