A 23-YEAR-OLD man has landed himself in hot water after calling a police officer ‘an idiot’.

Alfie Thomas Duncan, of Princess Road, Ellesmere Port, appeared at Chester Crown Court last Monday.

The court heard how, on March 26 in Coliseum Way, Ellesmere Port, he was spotted standing in the middle of the road by a police officer.

He was asked to move but he said he was trying to get a taxi and refused to budge, calling the police officer ‘an idiot’ and demanding a lift home.

Duncan was still under the terms of a suspended sentence order for a public order offence in 2010 which had just two weeks left to run, and had already completed a period of unpaid work.

Judge Roger Dutton said: “You have knuckled down and done the work but you got drunk and abusive.

“I can’t ignore that fact but I do not think it would be right to put you in custody.”

Judge Dutton extended the suspended sentence by two months and ordered Duncan to carry out another 35 hours of unpaid work.

He said: “When a court order is made and it is broken there is always a consequence. When that is done, that is the end of it. Do not be so stupid again.”
