HEROIC firefighters have been honoured for their bravery after they saved a woman from a fierce blaze.

Firefighters Jason Lyth and Lloyd Blower received the Act of Courage Award at the Dee 106.3 Community Awards ceremony held at the Ramada Hotel Chester, for the rescue of an occupant from a house fire.

The firefighters, based at Ellesmere Port Fire Station, were involved in a rescue involving a fully developed fire on the ground and first floor of a house in Elton last year.

With people unaccounted for, Firefighters Lloyd and Blower entered the house through the first-floor bathroom window wearing full breathing apparatus and carried out a full search of the property.

While fighting the fire, they discovered the occupant behind a door in the first floor bedroom and guided them to safety.

Station manager Kevin Fenney was in no doubt that Jason and Lloyd's professional actions helped in preventing a loss of life.

He said: “Jason and Lloyd fully deserve the recognition they have received by being awarded the Act of Courage Award.”

Chair of Cheshire Fire Authority Councilor David Topping, said: “On behalf of Cheshire Fire Authority, I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Lloyd and Jason’s professionalism throughout the incident.”

He added: “Although we have seen a reduction in the number of house fires in Cheshire in recent years, this incident outlines the importance of every home having smoke alarms fitted to ensure a safer Cheshire for all residents.”
