AFTER an impressive debut season Ellesmere Port’s only dodgeball team is looking ahead to next year.

Raging Bulls dodgeball team finished second in the North Conference in their debut season before taking part in the national championships.

They finished seventh out of eight at the nationals and were awarded medals for finishing second in their conference.

Nobody in the team had ever played dodgeball in the past and it was a learning curve for all of them.

David Dyke, 21 from Great Sutton, said: “We all had to pick it up from scratch, learning from rules off the official dodgeball website.”

The team picked up the rules quickly and before long they were up against the best teams in the country.

Mr Dyke said: “Most are more experienced, with more tournaments under their belts than us but what we lack in experience we make up for in hard work and enthusiasm.”

Greg Harrington, Lee Wright, Ben Longworth, Rob Kearns, Matthew Kerr and Katie Bromwich all from Whitby decided to start the team with Mr Dyke after watching comedy film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

Mr Dyke said: “We wanted to play something different, that not everyone else would usually play.”

Although the new season doesn’t start for another three months the Raging Bulls are already planning ahead.

Mr Dyke said: “We are looking at recruiting more players for the new season in September. Boys or girls aged over 17 are welcome.”
