FORMER Ellesmere Port and Neston borough councillor Lynn Clare (Lab), who was elected to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s new Ellesmere Port Town ward in October last year, was welcomed to last week’s full meeting of the council by chairman Cllr Eleanor Johnson.

“It’s nice to see you back,” said Cllr Johnson.

Cllr Clare, who was returned with a 584-vote majority over her nearest rival, Conservative John Pritchard and attracted 70% of the vote, has been unable to attend any meetings since the election due to ill health.

Her by-election was called following the death of former Labour leader Cllr Derek Bateman.

Cllr Clare was first elected to represent the town on the shadow Cheshire West and Chester Council in 2008 but did not seek re-election last May.
