ELDERLY residents at Astbury Lodge and Whetstone Hey have been hosting memory fairs to raise awareness of dementia as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

The events raised more than £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society and Residents’ Comforts Fund.

Both events took residents and visitors on a different route down memory lane with a specific theme.

Residents and guests were asked to write down their favourite memories and post them on special memory walls, along with photographs from the past, for everybody to enjoy.

The theme at Whetstone Hey was wedding day memories and residents were treated to wedding cake and a glass of sherry as they viewed each other’s black and white wedding photos.

Staff member Elaine Smith brought in her father’s army uniform wedding day outfit and resident John Powell told everyone how he married at 8 o’clock in the morning after coming off a night shift!

Astbury Lodge’s theme for the fair was holidays.

Residents and guests shared memories of walking on the sand, playing in the waves and sitting under parasols in years gone by and enjoyed a play.
