A BOX maker in Ellesmere Port has reported a dramatic shift in demand to greener packaging.

eCorrugated, based at the Poole Hall Industrial Estate, believes there has been a permanent change in the market, proven by demand over the last nine months.

Since July 2012, its Next Box product, manufactured from a lightweight 100% recycled board, has represented 40.4% of its total production.

The company states demand has been driven by a desire from customers to adopt greener packaging and reduce costs.

Next Box uses 5% less material and, as it is lighter and thinner than traditional board, reduces logistics journeys by 20%.

Paul Lavelle, director of eCorrugated, said: “A highly cost-conscious and environmentally aware market has created the perfect conditions for the demand for such products to thrive.

“Both these factors are overcoming the traditionally conservative nature of the packaging market, accelerating the rate of change. As a result the environmental credentials of the sector are taking a much greater step forward than anyone – including us – anticipated.

“Our Next Box uses a specialist board that is engineered by Prowell and delivers a 10% improvement in ECT and an enhanced surface structure for quality printing.

“When customers see a better product being produced, combined with the knock on savings and environmental credentials, there’s little reason to switch back.”
