Do you think any action is required on the M56 motorway between junctions 14 and 12, in light of the number of traffic collisions on that stretch over the past six months?

Yes. The recent unprecedented number of fatalities and collisions on this stretch of the M56 is a tragedy, unacceptable and the underlying causes need to be reviewed urgently with the Highways Agency, and measures to reduce the number and magnitude of incidents implemented.

The Tory government has failed in its responsibility on proper long-term investment in local infrastructure leading to failure to deliver promised road improvements to deal with highways safety, congestion and maintenance.

Labour will support long-term investment in local roads to work to improve their safety and condition and I will be lobbying hard to secure this investment for the M56.

Do you think Weaver Vale’s green spaces are suitable for developments such as Frodsham Wind Farm, Ince Resource Recovery Park and the proposed Hapsford Solar Farm?

The green spaces concerned are hard-won reclaimed land from the Mersey Basin, but which is otherwise wasteland.

There is already a proliferation of over ground power generation infrastructure.

Private enterprise power generators want to generate power on our green spaces and use our distribution systems to charge us for their power.

There is a balance to be struck between the need for renewable power generation, creation of short-term construction jobs and the needs of local residents with regard to development on green spaces.

Under Labour’s plans for devolution to the regions to give local communities greater power over permitted development and its consequences, I’ll be listening to concerns and support the local community to ensure that any development in green spaces is always in the public interest.

How would you support the delivery of the Halton Curve and improve rail travel in Weaver Vale?

The reinstatement of the Halton Curve demonstrates how partnership working in the public interest with rail users, Merseyrail and other key stakeholders across the Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales region can benefit local transport infrastructure by increasing regional connectivity.

Under Labour’s plans to give rail users a greater say in how trains will operate I’ll be working with the train operators and all stakeholders to ensure services, stations, fares and ticketing achieve customer satisfaction across the network and local rail services integrate with the wider regional rail network, buses and other local transport into a single network with smart ticketing.

Is it fair that motorists in Weaver Vale have to pay to use certain roads, for example the Silver Jubilee and Mersey Gateway bridges?

No, which is why I was pleased to report on April 6 that, if Ed Miliband (right) becomes Prime Minister, Labour will pledge a formal review of the Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee Bridge Road tolls affecting motorists in Frodsham, Helsby and Northwich.

It was only Labour that was listening to people’s concerns about the cost of tolls and the impact of congestion.

Labour’s pledge has now forced the Tory candidate off the fence in blatant electioneering just prior to the General Election, following his consistent failure whilst in office, to get his own Tory Government to commit to a formal review of road tolls affecting the two-thirds of Weaver Vale in Cheshire West and Chester.
