ONE of Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca’s most acclaimed works is coming to the Liverpool Playhouse.

Directed by Jen Heyes, with music by Juan Martín and a cast including Sabina Franklyn and Brian Dodd, Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre) is a brand new production running from November 25-29.

The play tells the true story of a bride who must decide between the lover she desires and the one society requires.

One of the most innovative and powerful plays of the 20th Century, this production will combine powerful imagery, choreography and live music to capture the lyrical intensity and killer tension of Lorca’s poetry.

World famous flamenco guitarist Juan Martín has joined the cast to compose the music and play live in each performance.

He will join a strong cast of Sabina Franklyn, (Love in a Cold Climate, The Upper Hand), Chris Hannon, (Royal Exchange, Manchester and Coronation Street) and Gilian Cally (Doctors, Holby City) and more.

Director Jen Heyes said: “It has been my passion to produce this work for many years, so to bring Lorca to the Liverpool Playhouse in the European Capital of Culture year is a dream come true. This will be an authentic version capturing Lorca’s original intention of combining flamenco dance and music with a magical design and a truly great cast.”

Performance are at 7.30pm Tuesday to Saturday, with matinees at 1.30pm on Thursday and 2pm on Saturday.
