Wrexham 5 Wigan Athletic 1
WREXHAM roared into the LDV Vans Trophy second round at the Racecourse last night after coming back from an own goal down.
Two-goal Lee Trundle led the way and Andy Morrell, a first-half substitute for Craig Faulconbridge, also scored twice to steer Wrexham through, giving new manager Denis Smith his second home win in four days.
Newcomer Keith Hill gave Wrexham some first-half woe with an own goal after 25 minutes, turning Scott Green's low cross past Kristian Rogers.
But Wrexham were level five minutes later when Lee Trundle twisted superbly in the box to steer a right-footer in from an acute angle.
There was an early second-half scare for Wrexham as Rogers dropped the ball in a crowded goalmouth, but Hill was on hand to concede a corner.
But Wrexham fought back and Trundle gave the Dragons a 2-1 lead after being played in by Shaun Holmes.
Morrell made it 3-1, smashing home Kevin Russell's pass, and the supersub made it 4-1 with a header from Paul Barrett's cross.
Wrexham's fifth goal came in the dying seconds from Wales under-21 international Stephen Thomas.
