A DOORMAN from Cheshire was in hospital last night after being shot by a hoodie gunman.

The 30-year-old was shot in the neck by the man he had thrown out of the Derby pub in Widnes on Friday night.

Police said two men arrived at the pub at 11.30pm. One went to the toilet and the other stayed in the foyer where he was talking to two doormen.

He was asked to leave and was escorted off the premises. Outside, he produced a handgun and shot one of the doormen.

The victim was taken to hospital, where his condition was described as "very poorly but stable".

The gunman was white, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 8ins, with short dark-brown or mousey hair. He had a slim face and a large nose and wore a blue hooded jacket down to his waist.

The other man was slimmer, in his early 20s, 5ft 8ins and wore a blue hooded top.

Forensic officers cordoned off the pub as searches were carried out. Cheshire police assured the public that extra officers were patrolling the area.
