A MAN from Ellesmere Port yesterday admitted dangerous driving after a road accident left a young boy fighting for his life.

Mark Bousfield, 23 of Church Road, allegedly hit three-year-old Liam Brickell as he walked hand-in-hand with his mother Nicola Watkins, 26, across a pelican crossing on New Chester Road, New Ferry, last Tuesday, June 24.

Liam was left critically injured and taken to Arrowe Park hospital.

Carole Evans, prosecuting, told Wirral magistrates: "The boy's mother saw the car coming towards her and thought it was going to stop, but she felt her son's hand slip from her grasp and the air rush past as the car brushed her legs. She heard the thump as the car hit the child and then saw her child on the floor."

Bousefield also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and to having no insurance.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges of failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident. Bousfield was remanded in custody until July 21 when he will apear before Liverpool Crown Court. The two not guilty charges will be dealt with on August 4.

Liam is now recovering at home.
