ALAN Kennedy, Neville Southall and Arthur Albiston will be in the jungle together - not on an I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! football special but a charity challenge, also featuring a couple from Wrexham.

Angela Griffiths, 36, and partner Tom Nowrie, 41, will be on Liverpool legend Kennedy's team as they undertake the Professional Footballers' Association's Borneo Cup 2006.

Before they fly to Malaysia next May, Angela and Tom will be training hard as they prepare to trek through dense jungle.

Among the activities they will undertake are a gruelling hike to the summit of Mount Kinablu and a raft race on the Kiulu river.

Supported by the PFA, the aim of the adventure is to raise more than £100,000 for national charity Children Today, which provides life-changing equipment for young people with sickness or disability.

Funds raised by Angela and Tom will help beneficiaries in the Wrexham area.

'After hearing about the Borneo Cup on a local radio station, I knew I had to get involved,' said Angela. 'This is something that neither myself or Tom have been involved in before and is an opportunity to make a real difference by helping to give young people their independence back.

'I work for MBNA in Chester, which has agreed to support me with this challenge and are matching whatever money I raise.'

As a self-employed taxi driver, Tom will rely on the support of his friends, relatives and customers.

'We have a real adventure lying ahead of us in Borneo,' he said. 'The events are bound to be challenging but, with visits to the gym, countryside walking and my martial arts training, I'm sure I can keep up with Alan.

They will be challenging teams led by former Everton goalkeeper Southall, ex-Manchester United left-back Arthur Albiston, one-time Bolton Wanderer Peter Nicholson, Newcastle United hero Brian Kilcline and Blackburn Rovers star Simon Garner.

There are places left but each participant must raise a minimum of £3,500, with a £500 deposit requested to ensure commitment. Businesses can sponsor an individual participant, captain or team.
