CHILDER Thornton has its own community Christmas tree this year – thanks to Willaston and Thornton councillor Myles Hogg.

Cllr Hogg used part of his Cheshire West and Chester Council member’s budget to buy a string of festive lights for the tree in School Lane.

He said: “The last time that Christmas lights were erected by the council in Childer Thornton was some time ago.

“Last year I purchased new lights for Willaston and this year I thought it was a nice idea to reinstate them in School Lane.

“I have received very favourable comments from local residents and I hope the lights bring festive cheer to everyone who sees them.”

Members’ budget grants of £10,000 are allocated to councillors at the beginning of the financial year. They must be used to benefit a ward’s community.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their local councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
