A COMPOSER is looking for a choir of angels.

Matt Baker, composer of the 2003 and 2008 cycles of Chester Mystery Plays, is looking for singers to take part in a mini-production of one of the plays at Chester Amphitheatre this summer.

The production of The Creation is part of Chestival 2011, in association with Theatre in the Quarter, following the huge success of Noah’s Flood in 2010 which was seen by 4,000 people.

Matt said: “We have an amazing community choir, many of whom performed in 2003 and 2008 productions of the Chester Mystery Plays and in Noah’s Flood, but we’re always keen to involve new people.

Chester Mystery Plays chairman Jo Sykes is particularly looking for male singers. She said: “We need male as well as female angels to create wonderful sounds with big voices. We are very much looking forward to producing another Chester Mystery Plays in Miniature play this summer, and thrilled to be working with Theatre in the Quarter and Chestival again.”

Matt added: “The music for this year is all new and we have some surprises in store for both the performers and the audience.”

The performance of The Creation will take place from June 17-19 and rehearsals start toward the end of May. Other groups involved include: Dee Point, Dee Banks, The Hammond and Bishops’ Blue Coat schools, Frodsham and Helsby schools, Home Grown Dance Company, Karamba Samba and the University of Chester’s multi-media department.

Anyone interested in being in the 2011 community choir should email info@chestermysteryplays.com or phone 07813 661949.

The next production of Chester Mystery Plays will be performed in Chester Cathedral nave from June 26 until July 13, 2013. Tickets are on sale at Chester Cathedral box office.
