ANDREW Miller, Labour MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, was delighted to welcome Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for business, innovation and skills last week.

MP Chuka Umunna visited the Vauxhall factory in Ellesmere Port, where he held discussions with human resources director Phil Millward, General Motors UK and union representatives.

Mr Umunna and Mr Miller then toured the plant.

Mr Miller said: “‘I was particularly pleased that Chuka was able to hear from two students who are part of the GM undergraduate scheme, spending a year at Vauxhall’s during their degree course.

“They gave an excellent presentation of their work introducing school students to manufacturing.”

The day finished with Mr Umunna speaking to local Labour Party members at a fundraising dinner.

Mr Miller added: “It was a good opportunity for one of our leading members of the Shadow Cabinet to see for himself the achievements of unions and industry working together.

“This region has a lot of hi-tech, innovative industry and employment that we need to encourage to develop and grow for the future good of the UK.”
