LITTLE chefs at a Northwich primary school enjoyed a four-day visit from healthy cooking experts last week, and got to have a go themselves in an unique learning environment.

Reception class youngsters and Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils at Winnington Park Primary School made an array of healthy snacks under the watchful eye of Food Standards Agency teachers in a specially-built articulated lorry – which opens into a kitchen-style classroom!

“It’s amazing, it’s like a Tardis!” said headteacher Christine Norman. “It was a brilliant experience for the children.”

The school applied two years ago to have the Cooking Bus visit and there is now a four-year waiting list, such is the project’s popularity.

The children made delicious snacks, salads and smoothies from Monday-Thursday, and the teachers even played pupils for an after-school class on Wednesday, when they made vegetable samosas, tomato and basil tartlets and mixed berry smoothies.
