Children from Delamere Church of England Academy recently planted five trees as part of the Jubilee Woods campaign, which aimed to plant six million trees in honour of the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee.

Pupil Naomi Wilson,11, said: “We use the woods as part of our bushcraft studies and so it’s great to be adding more trees. Trees are really important to the eco system and we have learned that many British trees are suffering from disease and have to be chopped down and so planting these new oak trees will help.”

Headmaster Steve Docking said the school is really keen to exploit its green space: “These trees will be around long after we have gone and it’s really important for the children to understand how responsible generation’s plans for others coming behind them.

Wainhomes North West sponsored the tree planting as part of its commitment to working with the local community.

Sharon Wood, Regional Sales Director for the company, said: “Many of our Oakmere buyers have cited the surrounding countryside as a major attraction and therefore we wanted to do our bit to contribute to the landscape.”
