CHESTER solicitor Gray Prestt is retiring after 41 years.

The 62-year-old is a partner at Walker Smith Way, where he specialises in commercial property law. He was also senior partner at the Chester firm for several years.

Gray said: “It has hardly felt like 41 years, the time has flown by.

“It’s been wonderful working for such a customer-orientated and professional firm, and I will miss the wonderful personalities who work here. I will definitely be keeping in touch.”

During his career with the firm, Gray has been credited with creating a series of initiatives and strategies which have modernised the firm. He also played for the practice’s cricket team.

He recently won the Law Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the industry and commitment to Walker Smith Way.

Gray was also a judge and mentor for Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden’s Local Business Accelerators scheme, an initiative which was set up to support local businesses.

Neil Turnbull, managing partner at the firm, presented him with his leaving present of an Apple iPad at an informal farewell gathering at the firm’s headquarters in Nicholas Street.

He said: “Gray is an excellent ambassador for the firm and has been a highly valued member of the leadership team.

“Due to his contributions, we at Walker Smith Way face the future with confidence. He will be sorely missed and we all wish Gray well in his retirement.”

Gray is convalescing after injuring his leg in a recent skiing accident, but said he was looking forward to spending more time ‘out and about’ in the fresh air, cycling, walking and one of his favourite past-times, golf.
