Transfer embargo hits big swoop for unwanted pair

NORTHWICH Vics will not be signing Chester City players Paul Butler and Tony Dinning due to a transfer embargo imposed on the club.

The League Two outfit’s unwanted duo were linked with a move to the Marston’s Arena last week but the current transfer freeze means that the pair will not be putting on a green and white shirt.

Vics boss Steve King has been frustrated by the club’s financial situation since joining as manager in November last year and confirmed that Chester chairman Steve Vaughan’s offer could not be accepted.

“Butler and Dinning will not be coming,” he said. “I am not sure I would be too interested but the embargo has put a stop to it anyway.”

Dinning has gone on trial at Scottish Premier side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

This Saturday, Vics host second-placed and FA Cup heroes Histon (3pm).

King’s men will be at full strength, provided his side came through last night’s friendly with Witton Albion unscathed, as Mat Bailey has returned from his loan spell at Hinckley United.

Vics are still without a win in the league since October 18 and are still rooted to the bottom of the Blue Square Premier – some 12 points adrift of the first safe spot.

Histon, meanwhile, arrive in Northwich fresh from their moment in the spotlight after yesterday’s FA Cup third-round home clash with Championship side Swansea.

“It will be a very tough game,” said King. “Histon are very good at what they do. They get after you, turn you around and chase every ball and it gets them results.

“They are having a brilliant year so it’ll be a hard afternoon for us. If we can convert some of the countless chances we are creating then we’ll be in with a shout.”
