POLICE in Ellesmere Port are renewing their advice for car owners to protect their vehicles against crime.

Cheshire Constabulary saw an increase in reports of thefts from cars and vans across the region at the weekend.

A significant number of the incidents took place when car owners failed to secure their vehicles properly, leaving doors unlocked and windows open.

Detective Inspector Sharon Case said: “I cannot stress the importance of locking your car or van before leaving it unattended.

“Some people feel the temptation to leave car windows and doors open or unlocked whilst the car is parked on the driveway of their home.

“This presents opportunist thieves with the chance to search through your car and steal anything of value, causing little noise or damage that would otherwise alert the owner to the crime.”

During the weekend of January 7-8 Cheshire police responded to five reports of thefts from cars in Stanney Woods and Ledsham in Ellesmere Port and Westminster Park and Sealand Road in Chester.

Anyone with information should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101.
