THE Prince of Wales yesterday made a Valentine's Day visit to Cheshire.

Charles toured Reaseheath College in Nantwich to meet staff and pupils studying cheesemaking.

The Prince, who is patron of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association, was given a tour of the facilities before chatting with some of the country's top independent cheese producers.

He was given a collection of samples, including a specially made heart-shaped portion of Ashed Dorstone to mark St Valentine's Day - but he didn't reveal if he would be passing the passing the cheese on to anyone.

He even dodged a question from two inquisitive youngsters who asked him whether he had received gifts yesterday.

Best friends Cerys Owen and Lucy Jones, both five, handed him a handmade Valentine's card as he left the college.

The smiling Prince thanked them and when asked by the cheeky pair what Camilla had bought him for Valentine's Day, he replied: "I'm not letting on."

A crowd of around 70 well-wishers gathered by the entrance to the college to bid the Prince a fond farewell.

* Clarence House yesterday rejected claims that the forthcoming civil marriage between the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles would not be legal.

A BBC Panorama investigation revealed there was confusion over whether the heir to the throne's ceremony at Windsor Castle on April 8 would be permitted under current legislation.

The 1836 Marriage Act allowed for civil marriages in England for the first time, with the exemption of the Royal Family.

Constitutional expert and friend of the Prince Lord St John of Fawsley branded the programme "an absolute disgrace".

"It's nonsense and nonsense on stilts. The purpose of the explanation in the Act was to safeguard the Royal Family from the side effects such as the banns," he said.
