A CONCERT marking a church’s centenary will be raising funds to refurbish its chapel.

The event, entitled An Evening with Jonathan Starkey, will take place at Our Lady’s Star of the Sea Church in Ellesmere Port on Friday.

It marks the beginning of a series of events to celebrate the centenary of the church.

Mr Starkey will be bringing his own grand piano into the church for the concert, which will feature a mixture of playing and humour to appeal to all.

He said: “I am very happy to be associated with this event and to help the community in this way.”

Mr Starkey is a broadcast composer whose music is distributed to 32 countries by EMI and Universal, and is heard regularly on TV and radio behind programmes and commercials.

He has recently finished a double album for a joint project between EMI and ITV.

Paula Jones, one of the organisers of the concert on behalf of Our Lady’s, said: “We are delighted Jonathan is available to do this concert for us and are looking forward to a wonderful evening of music.

“We also look forward to the support of all the parishioners of and visitors to the church and hope to see as many as possible in attendance for this and other centenary events throughout the year.”

Tickets are £3.50 and available from Our Lady’s Star of the Sea directly or by calling 0151 355 0892.

There will be refreshments after the concert.
