TWO brothers who wreaked misery on elderly people have been banned from areas of Ellesmere Port.

Anthony Bethune, 20, and Wayne Bethune, 26, were handed anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) at Chester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 10.

The court heard how residents in Stoke Gardens and Tarvin Close had to endure:

Acts of physical violence between the pair

Threatening behaviour

Foul and abusive language

Anti-social levels of noise.

The five-year ASBOs prevent them from using foul, abusive, insulting, offensive, threatening or intimidating language or behaviour in  public in England and Wales.

They also prevent them from entering an exclusion zone which includes Stoke Gardens and Tarvin Close in Ellesmere Port.

The pair were given ASBOs after persistent bad behaviour in an area of Ellesmere Port. They  used abusive and offensive language toward and in the presence of residents and engaged in frequent verbal and physical arguments.

PC Amy Beaumont from Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: “Anthony and Wayne Bethune have engaged in consistent and ongoing anti-social behaviour towards elderly residents in Stoke Gardens and Tarvin Close.

“This behaviour consisted of loud noise, shouting and swearing which often resulted in violence in Stoke Gardens.

“Cheshire West and Cheshire Council issued anti-social behaviour  injunctions to Anthony and Wayne Bethune in 2011 to prevent them from attending at Stoke Gardens, which gave the residents some respite from the Bethunes anti-social behaviour.

“When the ASBO injunctions expired, the Bethune brothers continued with their anti-social behaviour causing misery and suffering for neighbours.

“It is the aim of Cheshire police and partner agencies to provide a safe and pleasant living area for people in Ellesmere Port who just want to live in peace and quiet. Individuals who consistently ruin the quality of life for others will not be tolerated.

“We and our partner agencies will continue to monitor the situation and do everything possible to make living in Ellesmere Port more peaceful and without fear of anti-social behaviour.”

Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour in Ellesmere Port should contact Cheshire police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
