GREEN thinkers at a Capenhurst business are in the running for a prize of up to £40,000.

Shell Springboard, a programme designed to promote the growth of the low carbon economy in the UK, will give the money to one of nine regional finalists who have been shortlisted from nearly 200 national entrants.

VPhase is a home-energy efficiency device that saves consumers about 10% on their electricity bills using voltage optimisation technology.

During the 25-year life of the product, it is anticipated to save around four tonnes of CO2 – so it is proving to be a viable option for environmentally conscious households too.

The Shell Springboard programme, which has awarded more than £1.3m to 35 UK small businesses since it launched in 2005, this year celebrates its sixth anniversary. It encourages a positive business response to the challenge of climate change by providing a no-strings financial boost to ideas for innovative products and services that could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Matt Cody, marketing manager at VPhase, said: “Shell Springboard represents a great opportunity for VPhase, not just for the prize money available, but for the raised awareness that the competition can bring. Being shortlisted will inevitably help raise awareness of voltage optimisation as a viable green technology for the home.”

VPhase will be competing against other businesses at the regional final in Birmingham on February 1. If successful, they will go forward to compete to be named as the overall UK winner in London on the 2nd March.
