A MAGIC show, a cake decorating masterclass and a baking competition were the highlights of a coffee morning at M&S Cheshire Oaks.

The M&S Café joined forces with Macmillan Cancer Support for Macmillan’s annual fundraising event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on September 28.

Customers, who were treated to product sampling, joined Ellesmere Port mayor Pat Merrick, Chester town crier David Mitchell and M&S deputy store manager Angela Aston to host a full morning of activities in the 430-seat cafe.

The cafe hosted ‘Cheshire Oaks Gets Baking’ – a competition where customers were asked to submit their home baking to be judged the best in the town by WI members Mary Hignett and Cybil Davenport.

The winner was Sue Pinnick, who scooped a £250 M&S gift card with her Hallowe’en themed cupcakes.

Cllr Merrick said: “This year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is on track to raise an incredible £10.8m that will go to paying for a raft of services that support people living with cancer in the UK.

“I was thrilled to help launch the event at M&S Cheshire Oaks and hope people from the area have raised lots of money for this incredible cause.”

Deputy store manager Angela Aston said: “Every morning hundreds of thousands of residents in Cheshire enjoy a cup of coffee over a chat with family and friends.

“ It was great to welcome so many people in to the M&S Café this morning to make a contribution that will truly touch millions of people.”

Gabriella Potworowska, Macmillan Cancer Support representative, said: “We are proud to be working with M&S for a third year and would like to thank everyone who came along to the M&S Café at in the Cheshire Oaks store today.

“By simply coming along and enjoying a coffee and all the activity in-store, people have really supported us in our bid to help cancer patients.”
