A LOLLIPOP lady who has been helping Wrexham youngsters get to school for 22 years has been honoured for her service.

Brenda Szewczyk received an award for exceptional contribution to Road Safety at the sixth annual Wales Road Safety Awards, promoted by the Road Safety Council of Wales and supported by Chevron Texaco.

The Welsh Assembly's Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Transport, Tasmin Dunwoody-Kneafsey, presented the award to Brenda.

Fellow Wrexham school crossing patrol woman Sharon Ditcher, who has worked outside Rhosddu School with Brenda for the last seven years, also got an award.

Both of them have enthusiastically supported the Road Safety Section with a number of projects in schools all promoting road safety.

Rob Wilkinson, chief transportation and engineering officer said: 'I'm delighted two of our school crossing patrols have received national recognition and congratulate them on their awards.

'All of our patrols do an excellent job and are valued equally for their commitment to this worthwhile work.'
