A CHURCH in Great Sutton will cut its carbon dioxide emissions thanks to a £45,000 boiler run on wood shavings.
St Saviour’s will take delivery of the new boiler, which will cover fuel and installation costs and is expected to generate more than £130,000 in surplus income during the next 20 years.
The Bury-based Biomass Energy Co-operative has secured its first contract with the deal with St Saviour’s.
The renewable energy co-operative was founded by Grant Miller, Chris O’Connor and Ricky Davies with support from The Co-operative Group’s enterprise hub, which supports the creation and growth of sustainable member-owned enterprises.
The biomass boiler will burn locally sourced wood shavings and pellets.
It will reduce the church’s forecast carbon dioxide emissions by more than 580 tonnes over two decades.
