Blacon High School had four teams represent Chester schools at the Cheshire and Warrington Winter Games at the University of Chester.

A boys and girls under 15s volleyball team, under 14s boys basketball team and under 14s girls football teams went to the University of Chester for a day of competitive sport against the best secondary schools in Cheshire and Warrington.

For the second year in a row, Blacon High School emerged as U15 boys volleyball Cheshire and Warrington champions. A fantastic achievement and fully deserved for the high quality volleyball the team played. Captain Liam Roberts was determined, Trey Lattie was consistent with his powerful serving and Lewis Coppack and Dwayne Smith were dominant at the net. Blacon won the most games in the round robin tournament and held their nerve in the deciding game against Shavington High School, with Tom Crawford winning the final point.

The girls under 14s football played five games in their group - winning three, drawing one and losing one game meaning they qualified for the bronze medal match for finishing second in their group.

The boys under 14 basketball team played strong opposition in their group with Lewis Bridges, Marcel Aziamale and Calyn Barlow scoring impressive baskets and Jake Sconce, Charlie Cottis and Layton Ashford impressive in defence. The team didn’t qualify for the semi finals but improved in each game, showing a lot of potential and team work skills.

The girls under 15 volleyball team gave 100% effort and played some good attacking volleyball against well established teams. Kayleigh Spencer and Claire Jones were impressive and the team enjoyed the élite Volleyball experience.

All the students found the competition a worthwhile experience and enjoyed playing against talented opponents.
