IN A week when the country has been left stunned by the sickening abuse and treatment of innocent children, how refreshing to hear about a woman devoted to helping youngsters with Down’s syndrome.
I woke up on Friday morning expecting to leave the house angered by the latest installment in the Baby P and Shannon Matthews scandals.
But instead I was left inspired by a truly inspirational single mother who has adopted eight children with Down’s.
It’s hard to imagine just how difficult that must be, but Alex Bell from Swinton doesn’t think it’s anything special.
She’s wrong of course. Having grown up with an autistic older brother I know how difficult caring for a disabled child can be.
So to bring up eight is nothing short of amazing.
Alex has been in the news this week talking about her new book and raising awareness of adoption.
Her view on life is why clutter up a spare room with junk when you can provide a child with a second chance in life?
Thank goodness we have people like this in the world.
I’d like to say thank you to Alex for putting a smile on my face in a week which has left us all sick to the stomach.
