A BANNED driver caught behind the wheel nearly three times the drink-drive limit has been disqualified again for two years.

Kevin Collings, 30, of Eccleston Avenue, Ellesmere Port, was stopped on Overpool Road on January 22 with 95 microgrammes in 100ml of breath.

Christopher Murphy, prosecuting, told Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court that Collings was spotted ‘displaying poor standards of driving’ at about 11.50pm on January 21.

“It was swerving in its own lane,” he said. “The car accelerated to 40mph on a 30mph road still weaving its lane.

“On Rossmore Road West it almost hit traffic itself then pulled to the side and stopped.”

Chris Hunt, defending, said: “He passed his driving test but acquired six points soon afterwards.

“He had paid for insurance on his vehicle, but that was vetoed.

“He’d been at a party and drove home a short distance back. There was some sort of an argument at the party and Mr Collings decided to leave to allow things to cool down.

“He discovered he was cold and had the keys to the car so made the stupid decision to get in the car.”

Collings, a porter packer, was disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay £85 court costs.
