POLICE musicians ‘did Cheshire proud’ as they performed to tens of thousands of music-lovers in Germany.

After weeks of rehearsals, members of the Band of the Cheshire Constabulary travelled to Bad Schlema in Germany to perform at the Europäisches Blasmusikfestival.

The three-day festival saw the band perform to more than 20,000 people, who enjoyed a programme of modern-day hits, marches and rousing drum solos.

To kick-start the festival, the band, dressed in traditional uniform, marched regimentally through the crowds to the beat of the Corps of Drums, followed by a parade of thousands of musicians from across Europe.

The three-day trip saw the 39 musicians, who are from many walks of life, performing percussion solo Sing Sing Sing, bringing the house down with Carnival de Paris before being joined on the stage by the Corps to finish with Victory.

Musical director and former Cheshire Police Inspector David Woollam said: “The band and Corps have been excellent ambassadors for brass bands and for Great Britain and Cheshire.

“They played excellently and enjoyed every second of it. The atmosphere was fantastic and the band and Corps performed so well it is looking like we will be asked to go back again next year.”

The Band of the Cheshire Constabulary practices at Police HQ in Winsford on Thursdays from 7.30-9.30pm. The band is looking for players and drummers. Anyone interested should visit www.cheshirepoliceband.co.uk.
