Ellesmere Port Rotary Club has celebrated its 61st birthday.

The evening at the Brook Meadow Hotel started with district governor Les Wilson presenting Paul Harris Blue Sapphire awards to four delighted club members, George Martin, Gordon Vickers, David Greaves and Trevor Foster for outstanding service to Rotary and the local community.

One noteworthy achievement recognised by the district governor was the Ellesmere Port club raising £350,000 for the Rotary Foundation over the years by creating and managing a national Rotary Christmas card scheme.

Another highlight was the presentation of a cheque for £7,000 to president Steve Morris by Fred Warham, representing the Burleydam Garden Centre, following another successful Father Christmas event which was enjoyed by many children, parents and grandparents.

Fred designed and built Santa’s workshop and Rotary members, relatives and friends managed the event during November and December.

The money raised by the festive feature will be allocated by the Rotary Club to local charities and good causes later this year.
