A bottle on fire was thrown at an elderly man’s home in an arson attack in Ellesmere Port.

The victim was alone in his house on Pulford Road, Great Sutton, when the incident occurred at a time between 10.00pm and 10.45pm on September 7.

After hearing a loud bang from outside, the man went to investigate and saw a brick was also attached to the bottle, which was still on fire.

The missile had missed the front window, but it did set fire to the victim’s garden and cause damage to the window.

Officers from Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit are appealing for information following the attack.

Detective Constable Kevin Cooper from Ellesmere Port CID said: “This was an extremely serious unprovoked incident, the motive to which is currently unknown.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who has any information regarding the identity of the person responsible for this offence.”
