MASKED raiders armed with a meat cleaver and a baseball bat are being hunted by police following two failed robberies in Ellesmere Port.
The first attempted raid was at the Martin McColl store in Wolverham Road at about 5.20pm on Wednesday night.
Two men entered the premises armed with a meat cleaver and punched the male assistant leaving him with a black eye.
They demanded cash but left empty handed.
Shortly after 6.30pm on the same night, the Ali Hassan store in Bunbury Green was targeted by two men armed with a meat cleaver and a baseball bat.
They tried to force open the till but failed and before they fled the store smashed the freezers inside. Police believe the two incidents are connected.
In the first attempted robbery, the man holding the meat cleaver is described as being 20-30 years-old, 5ft 9ins tall, and wearing a black, blue and white camouflaged jacket, black bottoms and a dark blue Balaclava.
His accomplice is described as being between the same age, 5ft 7ins tall, and a grey and black striped hooded top and dark bottoms.
The description of one of the robbers after the second failed robbery is a man in his early 20s, 6ft tall, of medium build, and wearing a black jacket and trousers and a black woollen mask.
