MASKED armed robbers threatened a father and his stepdaughter before tying them up and ransacking their home.

Businessman John Irlam, 56, and his 20 year-old stepdaughter suffered cuts and bruises during the terrifying ordeal at their house in Knutsford Road, Cranage on Thursday evening.

Mr Irlam, from Higher House Farm next to his haulage company, was bundled to the floor while his stepdaughter, who is not being named by police, was dragged down the stairs.

They managed to cut themselves free when the gang of three robbers had left but were said to be extremely traumatised.

Police, who would not reveal what weapons were used, are appealing for help from members of the public who could provide clues about the incident.

They believe it was well planned.

Detective Sergeant Chris Davies said the victims were enjoying a quiet night in when the masked men burst in.

'I believe the thieves watched the premises beforehand,' he said.

'They were not burglars who were disturbed by people arriving home.

'They needed somebody to be in so they could make demands for certain items.

'We are now doing all we can to try and retrieve those items. It was traumatic for both victims, especially for the stepdaughter.

'She was dragged from upstairs to downstairs and was particularly shaken.

'Mr Irlam has been a strong character and is helping her through.'

After tying the pair up the robbers ransacked rooms before stealing several undisclosed items from different parts of the house.

They made their getaway in an unknown vehicle.

Police believe the men, who were white and thought to have spoke with Liverpool accents, may have discarded items as they fled the scene.
