ELLESMERE Port musician Ian Prowse has been signed up to play the Chester Rocks festival.

Acts including Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Echo and the Bunnymen will take to the main stage at Chester Racecourse on July 3 and now Prowse’s band Amsterdam have been added to the same bill, headlining a second stage, the Dawsons-Bido Lito! stage.

Ian said: “'We really can't wait to sock it to Chester, without a doubt this has to be the best setting for any festival in the country.

“We’re made for festivals. We make a glorious racket. When we did Glastonbury a couple of years ago that suited us. We’ll rise to the occasion I’m sure.”

Despite finding chart success with former band Pele and playing at big venues with Amsterdam in recent years, Ian says Chester Rocks will be one of the highlights of his career.

He added: “The thing I’m looking forward to most is my friends coming down from Ellesmere Port. Even though I’ve lived in Liverpool for the last five years, all my oldest friends are from Ellesmere Port. It’s going to be a lovely day. It really is one of the highlights of our career.

Promising a ‘cross section’ of his career with Pele and Amsterdam, Ian says he looks forward to rustling a few feathers in his hometown of Ellesmere Port.

He added: “It’s great because the jealous old cabaret musicians who all hate me will see we’re playing the biggest festival in the North West. They’re going to hate me even more, which I love.”

It is the second piece of good news Prowse has received in recent weeks – he also found he is to become a father with partner Bernadette McBride.

“I’m absolutely thrilled. I didn’t think I had it in me.”

Chester Rocks takes place on July 2 and 3 at Chester Racecourse. Tickets are £47.50 per day or £85 for both days, and are available from www.chester-rocks .co.uk or by calling 01244 304610.
