BISHOPS’ Blue Coat Church of England High School is celebrating another year of excellent A-level results.

Head of sixth form Yvonne Blackburn said 56% of students attained top grades A*/A and B.

"We are very proud of all of our students", she added.

"The pass rate was 99% and 70% of students achieved at least one A* - C grade.

"The results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of students and staff. The vast majority of students will take up first choice places at their chosen university."

The school’s highest performing nine students achieved 28 A grades between them, 11 being coveted A* grades. Nearly one in seven students achieved three A grades or better. These include Beverley Wilson and Emily Grader, who were each awarded three A* and one A grade and won places at Cambridge where both girls will read natural sciences.

Other top performing students include: Sam Beech (3 A) who will study ancient history at Manchester, Kelly McGuinness (3 A) who will study mathematics at Lancaster, Samantha Poulton (1 A* + 2 A), who will study law and politics at Manchester, Hannah Topliffe (3 A) who will study molecular biology with biochemistry at Durham, Fred Wiffen (2 A* + 2 A) who will study engineering at Durham, and Matthew Tomlinson (1 A*, 1 A + 1 B) and Daniel Allanson (1 A*, 1 A + 1 B) who will both study Mathematics at York.

Yvonne added: "The celebrations were tinged with some sadness as friends remembered the recent tragic death of one of the school’s former students who had been in their year-group.

Jack McKenzie, 18, of Richmond Crescent, Vicars Cross, was involved in a two-vehicle crash on the A41 Whitchurch Road at Hatton Heath last Friday.
