SUPPORTERS have been praised for raising almost £62,000 for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd’s annual Light up a Life campaign.

Despite the current economic troubles, the Backford-based unit, which looks after cancer sufferers from Ellesmere Port and Chester, said they once again received great support from the public.

Hundreds of people joined staff and volunteers at remembrance services in Backford and Connah’s Quay.

Tiny lights were illuminated in memory of thousands of special people whose lives were celebrated during the festive season.

Fundraising and marketing manager Amanda Le Bretton said: “Now in its seventh year our Light up a Life campaign has gone from strength to strength.

“It is wonderful to be able to give so many people an opportunity to remember their loved ones with hope and optimism.”

The hospice’s work would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of the community, she added.
