ACTION group CHAIN added more than 1,000 names to its petition fighting plans for the incinerator at Lostock after setting up a stall in Northwich town centre.

Volunteers including Hilary Cartwright and Graham Evans, the Tory prospective parliamentary candidate for Weaver Vale, braved the weather on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to secure fresh support in the fight to stop developers building a thermal treatment plant off Griffiths Road.

CHAIN – Cheshire Anti- Incineration Network – now has more than 8,000 signatures. The final tally will be presented to Cheshire County Council when developer WRG applies for planning permission in January.

Secretary Jonathan Guy said: “The weather did us no favours but we got some superb support and the names are still flooding in.”
