A FATHER and son will be bringing history to life this weekend.

Ira and Joe Theobold, of Belmont Road, Wrexham, are appearing together in Cheshire Tales, the dramatised story of the county through the ages.

The Tales will be staged at Chester Cathedral in a spectacular son et lumiere (sound and light) theatre performance. The dramatic event, to include music, speech and dance, also marks the debut of the production, which has been mounted by Cheshire County Council to celebrate the county's heritage. The writer and director is Robin Goddard, who lives near Mold.

Joe, 14, is a pupil of St Joseph's High School, Wrexham. No stranger to performing, he has played Charley Bates in Wrexham Musical Society's Oliver!, appeared in Bugsy Malone and was Joshua in his recent school production of Looking for a King. His favourite school lessons are drama and music and he wants to be a professional actor.

'I love performing,' he said. 'And this time I get to perform with my dad, which is always fun and makes me feel proud. The cathedral is an awesome venue to perform in and I'm really looking forward to it.'

Computer programmer Ira is also a keen singer and a veteran of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Just 14 actors have the mammoth task of depicting 2,000 years of history in two and a half hours.

Ira and Joe have been busy rehearsing in their spare time with help from the family back home who are all members of
