Commuters stuck for two and a half hours
Reports of people being stuck in jams for more than two hours on Twitter.
Bus services delayed
Arriva have tweeted a customer to say the crash caused delays to the running of bus services too.
Police confirm crash details
Just spoken to North Wales Police about the incident who have confirmed it was a five-vehicle crash and it happened shortly after 6am. The road re-opened at 7.30am but there are still a few delays.
One woman taken to hospital
Just in from the Welsh Ambulance Service - one woman has been taken to hospital. But her injuries are unknown.
A spokesman said: “We were called at shortly before 6.10am to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A483 northbound near Rossett. Two emergency ambulances attended the scene and an adult female was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”
A483 southbound clear
The A483 southbound has now been cleared - the broken down lorry has been removed from the exit slip road of the Gresford Interchange (J6). That’s on the opposite side of the carriageway to where the crash happened.
Traffic starting to ease up
There is still queuing traffic in the area but delays are easing up on the A483. Surrounding routes that were used as diversions also remain slow.
Delays remain in the area
Although now the A483 is now open, there will be delays for the foreseeable future due to the backlog of traffic. Equally the B5445 through Pulford is congested, as that was the diversion. Affecting traffic between Wrexham and Chester.
Motorists stuck for nearly an hour
Motorists have taken to Twitter to say they have been stuck in the jams for around an hour this morning.
No indication still on injuries
We’re still not sure if anyone has been hurt in the crash - we’re awaiting confirmation from the Welsh Ambulance Service. We’ll keep trying to get an update for you all.
A483 southbound blocked due to broken down lorry
Problems now on the opposite side of the carriageway due to a broken down lorry. The A483 southbound exit slip road is blocked due to recovery work at Gresford Interchange (J6). Police are marshalling a skip lorry while recovery takes place.
Gwersyllt traffic
Heavy traffic and traffic heavier than normal on A541 Mold Road Northbound between J5 A483 / Summerhill Road (Gwersyllt, Wrexham) and A550 Hawarden Road / Cymau Road (Cefn-Y-Bedd). Possibly due to the A483 closure.
Delays expected for some time
The A483 is absolutely grid-locked heading towards Chester and it is going to take some time for things to get moving again and clear.
Delays in Gwersyllt
It’s also being reported that Gwersyllt is looking very busy as people try and avoid the A483 to go through Flintshire instead.
Road-reopened
Word is that the road has now re-opened and all vehicles have been cleared - however we are just waiting for confirmation on this from the police.
Five-vehicles involved
It is understood that five vehicles were involved in the crash - still no indication if anyone has been hurt.
Fire service not in attendance
I’m told that the fire service have not been called to the scene.
Gresford congestion
Lots of traffic stuck on the A483 - no indication yet on when it will re-open.
Queues on the B5445 diversion route
There is now queuing traffic on the B5445 Wrexham Road northbound before the A483 (Belgrave Lights) - congestion goes back to Darland Lane in Rossett on that road. That’s due to traffic diverting around the A483 closure.
Diversion
The best way to avoid the closure is to go via Pulford and Belgrave on the B5445 - however that is likely to be very busy already.
No indication of injuries
No indication yet if anyone has been hurt. We’re just trying to get in touch with the Welsh Ambulance Service to see if they have been called to the scene.
Avoid the area if you can
Police are urging motorists to seek other routes and avoid the area. Lots of motorists have also taken to Twitter to warn people about the incident.
Debris on the road
There was a lot of debris on the road and the second lane was blocked by one vehicle - unfortunately I can’t be sure of the make or colour as it was so dark on that stretch. But we’ll bring you updates on the vehicles involved as and when we can.
Several cars involved
There are several cars involved in the crash.
I believe the crash has happened at around 6am - I was heading that way at about 6.10am and one car had crashed into the central reservation.
Police hadn’t arrived at that stage and it looked like a nasty crash.
Several other cars had pulled over in the first lane - but it’s not clear how many are actually involved at this stage.
I understand police have now arrived at the scene.
